Sleeping Beauty Wakes
Sleeping Beauty Wakes is a (musical with a contemporary rock/pop/jazz feel ) by writer (Rachel Sheinkin ) (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee) and composer/lyricists (Brendan Milburn and Valerie Vigoda ) (two members of the trio GrooveLily). The show is a twist on the classic Grimm's fairy tale of Sleeping Beauty. (In this modern-day version, Rose is brought to a sleep-disorder clinic to wake her from her 900-year nap. )
It was presented March 31 to May 20, 2007 at the Kirk Douglas Theater of the Center Theater Group〔https://www.centertheatregroup.org/tickets/sleeping-beauty-wakes/〕 in Los Angeles, CA], a co-production with Deaf West Theater, directed and choreographed by Jeff Calhoun. In the spring of 2011, (McCarter Theatre Center ) in Princeton, New Jersey staged a production of (Sleeping Beauty Wakes ). The show (also ran ) at (The La Jolla Playhouse ) in San Diego, California in the summer of 2011. Another production is scheduled for spring 2016 at The 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle, WA.
